When on holidays the days flow by…busy and full.
We came back to Melbourne for a few days. We spent a glorious afternoon at the National Gallery of Victoria.
Ian isn’t into art like I am but he is into me! 🙂 So he patiently waits for me.
We flew Thursday morning to Tasmania. We got our car, booked into our hotel and drove directly south to the most southerly point in Australia that you can drive too. First thing we noticed in Tasmania is that it was cooler than the main land….cause is is 1000 km further south.
Alexander and I and behind us is the direct route to Antarctica! And the wind felt like it was coming directly off the ice! Burrrrr
Ian and Alexander. Alexander has one more place in the southern hemisphere to go to and his journeys to the most southerly points will be complete.
I continue to be fascinated with the interesting birds! Thankfully there are some that make it easy to take photos of them.
The ferns here are on steroids. 🙂 It is so fun to watch the changes in flora and fauna.
Day one complete! I will post our experience at an animal sanctuary tomorrow.
So I wonder where you have gone that was far away from where you live?
I have another set of cards ready to send out!
Sounds like you continue to have some fun adventures! I looked up the bird you took a picture of & I think it is a Masked Lapwing. You are right they do have some very interesting birds! Love the ferns too.. reminds me off the rain-forest. The farthest we have ever traveled from home is Roatan, Honduras in Central America. It is a beautiful little island that still has some wild places. We have been 4 times & the 1st time was the best because very few tourists even knew it was there. Our best trip memories though are of our 3 month road trip to Alaska, Yukon & NWT… We drove 23,000 km, but I am sure if we did it again there would still be lots to see that we missed the 1st time!

Thanks Candee. The fact that you keep going back to Honduras means that it is a very special place! lovely when you find a treasure like that. I agree with the trip to Alaska and so on. We certainly enjoyed ours a few years ago. We saw so many animals in the wild it was amazing.

My first experience outside of Canada was a move to Nigeria with two very young children in tow. There was nothing similar to home so there was little culture shock, I had nothing to compare it to. The culture shock came when we were transferred to the UK, simply because it was so similar to Canada in many ways and yet so very different. The UK is one of my favorite places, I loved our almost 5 years there. I have not yet made it to Australia but it is at the top of my bucket list. One day I will get there, in the meantime I will be content with living vicariously through your adventures!

Jody I am glad to have you live vicariously through me! 😉 I can’t even imagine living in another country and you did two. What took you to both those very different places? You will love Australia when you get here. It is a beautiful country.
